It’s a common misconception that the range of WEVO Porsche Parts are built for racing cars. The truth is, they’re suitable for all Porsches, whether road, race or rally.
The original Porsche designers were working to a draft of simplicity, for both weight and cost. Though Porsche are a prestige manufacturer, they have always manufactured in volume, so anything saved on the cost of one part is multiplied by many thousands at the end of the financial year.
This is how budgetary constraints lead manufacturers to hold back on component optimisation, as time or money spent on fine tuning all adds to cost. When non-optimum components are fitted in production, a properly designed aftermarket part, particularly something that plays an integral part in the driving experience can often enhance the driving and ownership experience many times over, the reward far exceeding the actual purchase cost.
WEVOs range of Porsche shifters are a great example of this. On the face of it, the part is not that much different to standard. But ask anyone who runs one, be it on a street, race or rally car and they will tell you: it’s like comparing a Swiss Army Knife with a Sabatier. The speed and precision of the WEVO shifter, particularly when twinned with a precision shift coupler, such as the PSJ unit, is head and shoulders ahead of the factory unit.
I recently had the pleasure of using Steven Harris’s beautiful WEVO-built hot rod 911, known as SHtang (seen above). SHTang started life as a 1973 911T but, 5 years ago, was rebuilt by Hayden at WEVO to include a late-year 993 engine and just about every product made by WEVO for the early 911. WEVO also designed and built some new products for the later engines, inspired by the requirements of this unique machine.
Parts fitted include the WEVO Camberking monoball front strut mounts and strut brace, WEVO’s uprated rear anti-roll bar consoles and, of course the clasic WEVO shifter, with R-Lite gear shift knob and billet door handles. SHtang also features a fully optimised WEVO 915 transmission and the legendary WEVO SPS rear suspension system, which replaces the standard rear spring plates and suspension bushes for non-deformable bearings. SPS holds the track and camber settings constant through the bends, and allows uninhibited movement of the rear suspension, whatever the steering angle and throttle position. A new SPS product is currently in development.
On the road, the difference between SHtang and a standard early 911 like my own 1971 T is night and day. The no-cost-spared aftermarket parts revolutionise the driving experience. It’s still classic Porsche, but classic Porsche for the 21st century: highly recommended.
If you’re not sure that the difference from standard to WEVO is worth the cost, trust the thousands of customers who have gone before you. Start with the simple parts and experience the WEVO difference for yourself. As a Porsche owner who has been there and done it, I can promise you, you’ll never look back.
