Engine build/upgrade
Why
At TwinSpark Racing & Engineering you are the right place for your engine upgrade or a custom build. We are working with precision engineers in a tidy workplace where the smallest details are reviewed. By doing an extensive inspection and combining that with years of experience, we try to exclude any major surprises in advance. At TwinSpark we are able to upgrade your street-use engine without losing comfort and capable of building full RSR FIA homologated racing engines that are as reliable as they are competitive.
How
Depending on the project and the donor engine, TwinSpark will fully disassemble, clean and individually inspect and measure each component. Based on this inspection and measurements, as well as the wishes of the customer and the experience of TwinSpark, the costs will be as accurate as possible, based on work performed, replacement and purchase of parts and upgrading of parts as well as the test runs and assembly.
In addition to the replacement of any parts and the purchase and assembly of the upgrade parts, TwinSpark is able to perform certain modifications at home. Consider porting of the cylinder heads, drilling MFI injectors as well as milling a second spark plug hole while maintaining the cooling ribs. In addition, TwinSpark can also modify the valve covers for double ignition and all flat areas to reduce the risk of leakage.
Once the operations have been completed and the required components are inside the engine and cleaned, the block will be assembled according to the prescribed procedure with the correct measurements and adjustments. Next, the engine will be adjusted to the designated test bench. This may be possible in or outside the car depending on the wishes and possibilities of the customer.
End result
TwinSpark will send the engine including a comprehensive photo report, test report and inspection report fully assembled returned in a solid flight case to prevent any transport damage or completely demolished in the car. Included is a Swepco 301 phial, which TwinSpark always uses as motor oil and therefore recommends.
Of course, it is also possible to only perform the operations on the various engine parts at TwinSpark if assembly with your permanent specialist is a wish of yours.

Client
A client who manages a backdated project at another garage has seen his project increase at a costly expense. Partly because he did not want to put all the work at one company, he was looking for an external party that could upgrade the engine. There was no donor engine so, in addition to upgrading a block, a suitable engine for this upgrade should also be sought. As the project started to rise out of the budget, it has been decided to move it all on a longer plan. Therefore, there was also no financial opportunity to do an engine project at a time. Ultimately, it was decided to phase out and spread the project in 8 months where a monthly payment was made. In this way, the project was going well, at the financial level.
The project
A 3.0 SC engine is supplied. TwinSpark Racing completely sandblasted all engine parts and measured them to see if they are still within tolerance. After inspection the wishes of the client have been discussed and the engine parts that are within tolerance are refurbished and the engine parts that do not meet the tolerance requirements need to be replaced in order to build an engine in accordance with the wishes of the client and the FIA specifications.
Because racing engines are not comfortable enough on their own for street use it has been decided to build the basis of the engine according to the homologations. That is why the choice has been made for an MFI-injection with high-butterflies. The piston heads are machined by TwinSpark in house to a 43 millimetre in and 43 millimetre out, twinspark ignition and further MFI preparation. To make the engine useable on the street more tame 964 Carrera 2 camshafts are fitted instead of the high-performance RSR camshafts. If and when the client chooses to use the engine in a race the camshafts will be swapped and the MFI pump will be tuned in order to provide a competitive engine.
The result
The engine has been tested and adjusted externally on a DYNO bank. Then the engine is packed in a flight case and sent to the customer. The engine is built into the car and measured on the test bench with a power of 265 HP and a constant high torque, making it a very challenging engine on street use.
