The forthcoming Historics at Brooklands sale on November 24th will feature a Porsche 935 replica. OK, it is yellow, but under that tail is said to live a proper 935 engine, built by German specialist, Andrew Mirow.
Mirow built this car from a 1973 911 Coupe in 1997. The body was done by Folger Styling, with DP Motorsport panels including the ground-effect aero and that double deck rear wing. Brakes are 930, as is the transmission: four-speed with LSD.
“Adding greatly to its appeal and rarity,” says the vendors, “the car is fitted with a genuine Porsche 935 racing engine built by Mirow, with twin KKK K26 turbochargers and intercooler”. 0-60mph happens in 3.1 seconds, and is all done in first gear. Engine power peaks at 580hp with 1.2 bar of boost, and I spy a vertical fan.
The cabin has an eight-point cage, fire extinguisher and lightweight Konig seats. Chequer plate floor pans will wind a few friends up and I don’t know whether the shell was seam welded: something to check if you’re keen. There’s some additional instrumentation to distract the driver’s eyes, but you’ll still see that yellow from inside the car.
This car was featured in one of the mags a while back and I can see some potential beyond all the stickers. The steering wheel’s on the proper side to hit a decent audience and the estimate is £75-90k.
Two big questions for me: is it worn out or in need of help anywhere, and what are the chances of FIA papers with a little bit spent? Easy strip it back to metal and get it painted white: paint would be the cheap part if there’s any mechanical wear to address.
