Today we finally had a chance to test Woodstock, our signal yellow Porsche 911 3.0 RSR. The RSR has been extensively rebuilt over the last 18 months and now includes many new items which we sell to our clients. The new 3.0 twin-plugged RSR engine had been run in for about 250 km, but had not been run on track. This beautiful piece of kit was humming away like a dream for a few laps, until it developed a misfire. Coming back into the pits it turned out that one of the top spark plug wires had popped off, so nothing serious. And back on I went.
As you may know we restore MFI pumps as part of our select offering, and to check how the engine is performing we mounted an air/fuel gauge and sensor in the car. The meter read out perfectly around the desired 1:14 proportion across the rev-range, meaning that the engine is breathing healthily and we have another fruit of our work ready to be enjoyed. My fears around loudness of the engine were unjustified and the measures we took to limit noise worked out well. Our in-house modified exhaust combined with a traditional air filter house (dome) and engine bay skirt did the trick.
The gearbox was restored using several WEVO components such as the 915 Side Cover and the Gate Shift kit and moved just beautifully. We didn’t have time to bolt in the prototype WEVO Tall Boy shifter which we were entrusted with, but that will go in next week, ahead of the next test day.
