TwinSpark Racing sponsors HARC GT Racing at Assen

The Dutch historic circuit racing season kicks off next weekend: May 7th and 8th at TT Circuit Assen, with the State of Art Historic Trophy. The packed weekend program has no less than twelve races. The weekend is being organised by the Historic Auto Ren Club (HARC).

Since its inception in 1975, HARC has organized two Zandvoort events per year. The traditional Historic Zandvoort Trophy State of Art Grand Prix Classic this year will be preceded by the State of Art Historical Trophy at TT Circuit Assen. This extension of the national historic motorsport calendar gives historic motorsport enthusiasts in the north of the country the chance to enjoy a beautiful historic racing event close to home.

The races of the Delta Lloyd Xclusief NK Historic Touring Cars and GTs are undoubtedly a highlight. With a wide range of entries, the grids should all be greater than 30 cars. Participants range from the Fiat Abarth and Mini Cooper to the Porsche 911 and Chevrolet Corvette. All participating cars date from before 1966.

The NK Techno Challenge GT & Touring Cars, for cars from 1966, made its debut last season and was an instant success, with more than 20 touring cars and GT’s racing by season’s end. This grid is very varied, with the Porsche 911 and Ford Escort the most popular cars. TwinSpark Racing is sponsoring the prizes for the GTC races, so all cars will carry TwinSpark roundels by their race numbers.

Nine 911s will field at Assen, including four R Gruppe members: Leonard Stolk, Lex Proper, Gerd Rijper and Ronald Aardse. Six of the nine are early 911s, with three G-model RSRs, including our Hulk with its newly rebuilt 3 litre engine, and Gerd’s new white and orange monster.

Elsewhere on the weekend are races for MG Competitions and other British classics like the Austin-Healey 3000. The ADPCR (All Dutch Pleasure Club Racing) comes with a field of Porsches. Besides the Porsche 944 Basic Cup, there is a spectacular free class. The Dutch Renault Clio Cup provides a modern interlude.

Sunday ends with the State of Art 1-hour race, featuring participants from the various HARC classes. Pictured below are Leonard and Daan Stolk at last year’s State of Art reception – Leonard rarely takes that jacket off…

The program begins Saturday, May 7 at 10am, with demonstrations and and qualifying sessions. Racing starts at 15:40 in the afternoon. Sunday action starts at 11am. A ticket for the entire weekend will cost €15. Children under 14 are free when accompanied by an adult. Parking costs €7 per day. For further information, go to www.harc.nl.
