Work has continued at a feverish pitch this week at TwinSpark Central! The rear trailing arms in steel put up too many fitment issues and we decided to pick up the project again after the first races next weekend. Woodstock’s got its engine back in and should be barking at the neighbors soon again. The guys did a terrific job fitting lightweight windows all around and this means we are starting the season some 15 kilo’s lighter than we ended last year’s.
The Hulk sports our RSR brakes in the front now, but due to lack of time it still has the alloy trailing arms and the Long Distance rear calipers on. Engine goes in tomorrow.
Both cars are off to our friends at Beek Racing in The Hague on Tuesday to be lowered, corner weighted and aligned. Both cars need to be set up to take advantage of the slicks we run on, which require no more than 1 degree negative camber to work optimally. Thanks to its pick up point repair The Hulk can now be adjusted adequately at last.
Today we went to work and pasted the door shields on the racing cars. This might be a bit obsessive, but I believe it is critical that details such as these are high quality and look in-period. I’ve seen too many wrinkled, poor quality stickers on precious cars… I spent some time figuring out what would fit our class and what materials and colors would suit us and arrived at this design. The numbers go on next week of course, but that’s no issue in the windy conditions at Zandvoort… Sticking a 50 cm diameter door shield on would be!
I particularly like the look of our national orange on The Hulk, but judge for yourself. The white circle holds a small version of our championship logo text in Hippie style font and more national colors.
More news on our preparations after the alignment has been done!
