TwinSpark at the Porsche Museum

I had an email a few weeks ago from the press department at Porsche here in the UK. They were putting a short but special one-day trip to Germany together, for a small group of UK Porsche enthusiasts who work in the media, and were wondering whether I might be interested? Silly question! The trip is tomorrow and promises to be a memorable event.

The day starts with a meet at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5, where we check in for our flight to Stuttgart. Upon arrival, we transfer direct to the Porsche Museum, for a behind-the-scenes tour of this wonderful facility. The visit includes a look at the archives, where some of the company’s most treasured historical information is housed. The Porsche museum’s opening hours show that the facility is closed on Mondays, so they are opening especially for us. Fabulous!

The museum tour includes lunch, and extends into the late afternoon. As darkness falls, we head to our hotel for a quick freshen-up before visiting Stuttgart’s famous Christmas markets. Then it’s dinner at a local restaurant with a nightcap before bed, and a proper German breakfast the next morning, before our flight back home. The entire trip is sponsored by the excellent Porsche Origin website – the home of Porsche online.

Earlier this year, some of our R Gruppe brethren enjoyed a similar closed-door tour, courtesy of some friends at Stuttgart. Leonard and I were sadly forced to miss the trip, thanks to the pressure of running our own businesses (in my case, missing the trip was down to my previous employers and finished my time there), but our partners from Zuffenhaus US went along and shot some great pictures of their visit – some of which are seen here.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing the museum since building started in 2005. To see it in such a unique way, with the manufacturer responsible for both the building and its contents, is an incredible way to round off an amazing year for me professionally, and a great year for TwinSpark Racing, too.

TwinSpark is just beginning to plan the 2011 schedule, with our stand at Essen an exciting kick-start to our Spring season. TwinSpark partners: Leonard, Lex and I have also been discussing ideas for events in 2012, which will put smiles on the faces of all our Porsche friends. Just like Porsche’s invitation to me two weeks ago, I hope you will be excited by the events we hope to stage in the next twelve months. The details will emerge as we firm up dates in the weeks to come but remember, like those who ducked out of the untouchable Bergmeister Tour and regretted it afterwards: if you’re not in, you can’t win!

P.S. for those looking for brake news, full details are now just a few days away! Very exciting update from our supply partners in the US last Thursday, which I am forced to embargo until a joint communication has been agreed. Stay tuned!
