TwinSpark Racing: synonymous with the Porsche 911 RSR

The classic Porsche 911 is an icon. Porsche guys never get tired of looking at good 911 pictures, and the concentrated world in which we run our cars is constantly receiving new members: more people who have decided that a classic 911 is what’s needed to complete their leisure time.

For air-cooled Porsche fans, the usual entry point is an Impact Bumper or G-model Porsche 911: one of the cars built between 1974 and 1989. A common (and clever) choice is the 911 SC, due to the numbers that were made and the volume still running around today in decent condition: these cars were very solidly manufactured.

Coming in at SC level, some look to the 3.2 for their second 911. Some decide that a later 964 or 993 is the way to go. For those who have come in at the 964 or 993, they may decide to go to a 996 for their second car. The 996 boys may decide to go to the 997, or up a step from C2 to GT3. This has long been the classic upgrade route: following the model trail until you end up in as new a car as you can afford. At the end of the road, you found yourself owning a 997, with €75k tied up in it. “How did I get here?” is a common question at this point. ‘How much of this money am I likely to lose in depreciation?” is another.

For a few Porsche buyers, buying models later than their entry-level 911 is not the way to go. Some look at the later cars and decide that for whatever reason, older 911s have more of what they’re looking for: more panache, more raw Porscheness, more stability in values or just more fun. These buyers like the classic 911 styling, but the downside of a slower car puts them off. Enter the RSR.

TwinSpark Racing have been running Porsche 911 RSRs in competition for over two years now. Our association with these cars is more than skin deep: they are the 911 that most closely resembles our business model at this time.

Think about it. The RSR has custom Fuchs, mechanical fuel injection, huge brakes, custom suspension solutions: all things that TwinSpark specialise in. The cars are simple: what you see is what you get. TwinSpark is a small company specialising in immediacy, honesty, authenticity: same as the RSR. Our philosophy and the classic 911 RSR go hand-in-hand. This is why we enjoy so much fun with our classic RSRs, and why we attract so many customers who like what we get up to, and want us to help them build their own version of Woodstock or The Hulk: our 3.0 RSR models.

Our recent assault on the Historic Touring Car championship here in The Netherlands gave us a great soon-to-be-announced result. Not in class: overall. A top result for the whole team, but, for next year, there can be only one target.

Also for next year, we are planning some additional RSR-themed events, and perhaps might even sponsor our own section of racetrack real estate, to bring a few more 911s out of hiding and back to the circuit – it’s an idea we’re working on at the minute.

The one thing you know is it’ll be exciting. Anything else wouldn’t be proper: it wouldn’t be TwinSpark and it wouldn’t be worthy of our RSRs.
