Last weekend was the 2011 Oldtimer GP at the Nürburgring. Billed by the organisers as the biggest classic car event in Europe, 2011 again attracted numerous automotive jewels to northern Germany. TwinSpark Racing’s Leonard Stolk took son Daan and our ST rally car, Silverado, down to the circuit for a day trip and to catch up with the on-track happenings.
Driving the Oldtimer GP is a goal of TwinSpark Racing, so we like to keep an eye on who is there and how fast they are! This year’s event seemed to be well attended: the ‘Ring had been transformed into a rolling open-air museum. The boys managed a few snaps in the public parking, where there were some interesting Porsche cars. Plenty of Sport Classics and new Speedsters suggest some enthusiast purchases have been involved: not just speculators.
We’re seeing more and more of these desert/Dakar-themed 911s and I can’t say I have a problem with that. Rallying is my thing and I like the look of a riding-high classic Porsche.
By some fluke, the boys also managed to grab a picture of a friend of mine in his historic Formula 1 car. His class looks kinda lonely in this shot – makes you wonder how the organisers got to that “biggest classic car event in Europe” claim. I can’t find any information on their website – but then it’s not the best website in the world.
I’m sorry to have missed an Oldtimer road trip, but plenty else happening with us at the minute. More of that later!
