- Comments Off on Eifel Rally 2013: 40 Years of WRC Rallying
This year’s Eifel Rally (July 25-27, 2013) celebrates forty years of the World Rally Championship. The entry list is filling up fast, with the group for course-opening cars already packed solid.

“These are cars whose family trees are not as rigorously inspected as other Slowly Sideways cars in the 130-strong entry”, said festival organiser, Peter Schlömer. “A few minutes after posting the entry form, the group was full – the enthusiast owners had been waiting to sign up.”

Well they might, for the Eifel has become Europe’s must-attend event for classic rally fans. This year’s rally will run to the tried and tested schedule, with a Thursday evening shakedown before the proper stages on Friday and Saturday. Rally highlights include:

Dropped into Tuthill Porsche earlier this week, where the team are getting Glenn Janssens’ Belgian Historic Championship-winning 911 together ahead of the season opener in Haspengouw on February 22-23.

Janssens will defend the title in his mega 911, as seen in the Chris Harris video below. The 3.5-litre twin-plug Porsche still runs the EB Motorsport slide throttle system as on sale in the Twinspark Racing shop but this year has added another Twinspark Racing product, in the form of a WEVO Billet Shifter with SL superlight shift knob.

After a harrowing morning on the final regularity and a driving test on closed track in Austria we have finished Winter Trial 2013 in one piece. The Regularity this morning posed as many challenges as we expected, based on our experience of earlier years. After 1,2 km out of 33km total, we took an early turn and as luck has it, not only was this the wrong road, but I hit a bit of soft snow taking the first turn and ended up back end first in a meadow with deep snow. Even Silverado’s 210 horses had to surrender to the forces of snow and gravity and we were officially stuck!
