The story of our June track day, where twenty-five air-cooled Porsche 911s came to Spa Francorchamps race track, features in this month’s Total 911 magazine. The mag has done a superb job on layout and design, and the piece really captures the positive atmosphere that surrounds an upbeat gathering of classic Porsche fans, at an equally classic circuit.

The piece talks the reader around a lap of Spa, as experienced from the front seat of Woodstock, TwinSpark’s 3.0 RSR. With Leonard driving, we chased, passed, got repassed and then rehunted a brilliant white 997 GT3 around the circuit for 5 or 6 laps, before coming in to get our breath back and stop laughing. Too much fun really.

My article encompasses the passenger sensations, as well as guidance on the perfect lap here from Ron Simons. Ron was our track day partner via his company RSR Nurburg, and has done a [...]

WEVO director Hayden Burvill at WEVO in San Carlos, California has just finished building the classic Porche 356 he and TwinSpark’s good friend Steven Harris will race in the Peking to Paris trans-Mongolia rally, which starts in China on September 10.

The Peking-Paris Rally lasts 37 days and takes the cars from China into the Khangai Mountains and Gobi Altai (as in Gobi desert) to Russia. Next comes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Italy and France: an expected total of 14,600kms.

It will come as no surprise to find that the 356 has been modified for P to P, though perhaps not as radically as one might have expected. Hayden’s WEVO blog features pictures and further details of the modifications, including the custom-made additional fuel tanks, and crack tested wheels and other components. Hayden’s piece also [...]

Our recent excursion to the mountains surrounding Monte Carlo flowed seamlessly into Classic Le Mans. Assuming you count an 1,100 kilometre drive, in 45 degree cabin heat with no ventilation seamless…

After leaving Monaco at 6.30, it was a slightly dehydrated bunch of Bergmeisters that arrived at Le Mans 12 hours later and grabbed a quick bite before an early night. Next morning, we assembled with our R Gruppe compatriots at the Rotonde, to collect our Porsche ticket packages and catch up on recent events, including the World Cup soccer results. There were also some very pretty cars to see.

The newest arrival to R Gruppe Europe is a perfect little 911R recreation, built in the Netherlands. With a front end made entirely of plastic, the R tops the scales at a featherweight 860 kilos, all powered by a glorious 906 engine. Pictures are coming!

The R’s maiden voyage, along the coast to Calais and [...]
