In mid-2008, Zuffenhaus US, based in Charlotte, North Carolina announced a new product, at that time being prototyped and set to enter the product development cycle.

The new arrival was a finned brake caliper which used all the stock internals of the Porsche 917 caliper in a new cast body, made to the same obsessive quality as the originals. The difference was that these new brakes would bolt straight on to stock 911 suspension, with no tricky/risky machining needed, as per the 930 brake conversion for standard-body 911s. The brake package would also fit under 15″ Fuchs wheels.

As my good friend Keith Walters of Zuffenhaus said, when he announced the package on Pelican in July 2008, “they are designed as a complete, [...]

We were very privileged at Classic Le Mans to be invited to take part in the Porsche Parade lap, celebrating 40 years since the 917 first won here, in the capable hands of Richard Attwood.

After leaving Monaco at 6.30, it was a slightly dehydrated bunch of Bergmeisters that arrived at Le Mans 12 hours later and grabbed a quick bite before an early night. Next morning, we assembled with our R Gruppe compatriots at the Rotonde, to collect our Porsche ticket packages and catch up on recent events, including the World Cup soccer results. There were also some very pretty cars to see.

The newest arrival to R Gruppe Europe is a perfect little 911R recreation, built in the Netherlands. With a front end made entirely of plastic, the R tops the scales at a featherweight 860 kilos, all powered by a glorious 906 engine. Pictures are coming!

The R’s maiden voyage, along the coast to Calais and [...]
